The Idea Behind WR-L

The devastating impact of Israel’s attacks on Lebanon in July-August 2006 has created the need for relevant, objective, and reliable information. The Israeli Army has unarguably violated the laws of war, reinforcing the need for accurate and useful information.

Information on the war’s events, and the impact of the war on the civilian population and the Lebanese areas, exists. But it remains to date – at the end of 2007 – scattered on websites, in books and in reports, incomplete and insufficient in some of its aspects.

In September 2006, a number of personalities (Lebanese and non-Lebanese), deeply concerned by the extent and devastating impact of Israeli attacks – especially its impact on the civilian population – have resolved to shoulder the task of documenting the war, before its spark starts fading.

The sheer volume and the nature of this task required the creation of a professional entity: War Records – Lebanon, a Lebanese non-for-profit association has been founded, notification number 433/a.d. acquired on 13 September, 2006, in accordance with the 1909 associations law.

War Records – Lebanon is an independent, non-sectarian organization based in Beirut. Funding for operational expenses is derived from donations from private individuals and concerned institutions in Lebanon and abroad.
